Bidjar Rugs, Carpet, & Area Rugs

Bidjar rugs are perhaps the most durable rug on earth because of this fact auctioneers call them iron rugs.  These durable rugs are woven by tough Kurdish people in the city of Bidjar. These rugs consist of thick piles, unbelievable structural strength and enormous weight.  Bidjar rugs unbelievable strength and density comes for the fact that the wet loom technique is used in there creation.  The loom is kept consistently wet during the long process of weaving and combed down tightly.  Once the rug is allowed to dry the wool shrinks and tightens the knots causing the rug to be extremely dense and durable. These rugs are perfect for high traffic areas such as corridors. The design of Bidjar rugs consist of a medallion in the centre of the rug, while the rest of the field is decorated either with floral design or with the herati motif reproduced in a small size and repeated to cover the whole background.  The borders are often composed of five bands, four narrow and one central wide one.  The main band is often decorated with border boteh, while the guards contain a succession of rosettes alternating with stylized flower motifs.
